When people have questions, Alexa has answers. In 2023, curious customers posed millions of questions to the beloved virtual assistant, and we can now reveal some of Alexa’s most-asked questions of the year, covering an array of the hottest trends and topics from the past 12 months.
New for this year is the first-ever Alexa Annual, created by British Beano cartoonist Nigel Parkinson, bringing to life the year’s top questions in the style of a classic comic yearbook. The Annual captures some of the top questions posed by Brits, answered with Alexa’s signature wit and personality.

Users asked about some of the biggest moments of the year
In the year of the Coronation, questions related to the king ruled, with users asking, “Alexa, when is the king’s Coronation?”, “Alexa, how old is King Charles?”, and “Alexa, how many birthdays does the king have?”. Meanwhile, “Alexa, long live the king” and “Alexa, sing the national anthem” also reigned among the top royal-related utterances of the year.
Over in Hollywood, box office hits Barbie and Oppenheimer were two of the most asked-about movies as ‘Barbenheimer’ fever swept the nation. Customers turned to Alexa to ask, “Alexa, when did Barbie come out?” and “Alexa, what’s the Barbie movie about?”. For those who were clearly hesitant about a lengthy stint in the cinema, Alexa was on hand to help answer: “Alexa, how long is the Oppenheimer movie?”
Mega musical events got users talking (and asking)
From the Hollywood Hills to the fields of Somerset, users also turned to Alexa to find out more about the legendary Glastonbury festival, with “Alexa, when is Glastonbury?”, “Alexa, who is headlining Glastonbury?” and “Alexa, how old is Elton John?” coming in as some of the most-asked questions related to the topic.
With Eurovision hosted in the UK this year, Alexa was on hand to answer questions on everyone’s favourite song contest, including “Alexa, who won the Eurovision Song Contest?”, “Alexa, when is Eurovision?”, “Alexa, where is Eurovision this year?”, and for a surprise Alexa performance, “Alexa, sing your Eurovision song”.
The top-played artists of 2023
Ed Sheeran held onto the number one spot as the most-played artist via Alexa and Amazon Music for another year. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus’s new music was a hit with Brits, with Flowers the most-played song and Endless Summer Vacation the most-played album via Alexa and Amazon Music.
Celebrities, sports, and recipes continue to be hot topics
Famous faces always pique curiosity, with Alexa users keen to learn more about their favourite celebrities, with “Alexa, how tall is Lionel Messi?”, “Alexa, what is David Beckham’s net worth?”, and “Alexa, who is Jennifer Lopez married to?” coming in as some of the top celebrity questions.
Away from celebrities, sport-related requests are where Alexa scores big, as eager football fans scouted for match updates while tennis enthusiasts used their devices to find out when Wimbledon was starting, or when Andy Murray was due on the court. Down Under, as The Lionesses continued to roar this summer, users also asked Alexa for score updates and manifesting World Cup glory with “Alexa, it’s coming home”.
In the kitchen, Alexa is still helping customers to cook up a storm. The AI sous chef spent much of this year helping with recipes and cooking inspiration, with Yorkshire puddings, pancakes, banana bread, chilli con carne, and apple crumble being the most asked-for recipes for 2023.
