Amazon aims to make customers’ lives better and easier every day, and when it comes to grocery shopping here in the UK, we’re focused on providing broad quality selection, low prices, and exceptional convenience. Today, we’re sharing plans that will enable us to provide UK customers with expanded options for shopping with us for their groceries and household essentials.
Expanding online grocery delivery options with more selection at faster speeds

Today, millions of UK customers already shop with Amazon for affordable household essentials and groceries, including selection from our main Amazon.co.uk store, Amazon Fresh online, Whole Foods Market, and our online delivery partnerships with Morrisons, Co-op, Iceland, and Gopuff. Across these offerings, we have a wide and varied selection of more than two million grocery and household essentials items—from cleaning and beauty products, and cupboard staples, to fresh produce, dairy, and meat, all with consistently low prices and fast, convenient delivery.
In response to strong customer demand, we are working hard to add more grocery selection online and expand our delivery services to new areas. By early next year, we plan to more than double the number of Amazon UK Prime members who have access to three or more online grocery delivery options through our partners Morrisons, Iceland, Co-op, and Gopuff, allowing them more ways to shop. With the expansion, more than 80% of UK Prime members will be able to shop at least one of our grocery partners.
UK customers are increasingly shopping for groceries and household essentials online. According to a report from PwC’s Strategy&, by 2030, Britons are expected to conduct over 25% of their food spending online. Britain is the world's third largest online grocery marketplace in terms of sales, demonstrating how UK shoppers are embracing the convenience of online grocery delivery, according to the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD). Amazon UK’s growth in the grocery category is outpacing the rest of our UK business: hundreds of millions of everyday essentials were delivered the same or next day in the UK in 2024—an increase of nearly 20% year over year. Additionally, in the first quarter of 2025, Amazon's everyday essentials category—which includes groceries and household items—grew nearly twice as fast as all other categories in the UK and now represents nearly one out of every three units sold on Amazon.co.uk.
In light of the positive customer response, in 2026, Amazon plans to make grocery shopping even more convenient by introducing perishable groceries alongside millions of everyday essentials and other products on Amazon.co.uk with Same-Day Delivery. This service, which recently launched in the U.S., will offer customers fresh grocery items including fresh produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods alongside everyday household essentials, electronics, and other products—all within their Amazon.co.uk basket and delivered within hours. And, we know that when customers are shopping for grocery items, they typically want them fast. That's why we’ve invested heavily in delivering items at record speeds. Over the last few years we've accelerated our delivery speeds for Prime members—2024 was our fastest year yet in the UK—and we offer Same-Day and One-Day delivery on many items.
Proposing to close physical Amazon Fresh UK stores while supporting our employees

We’ve made the difficult decision to launch a consultation with employees regarding the proposed closure of our Amazon Fresh UK stores, following a thorough evaluation of business operations and the very substantial growth opportunities in online delivery. In case of closure, our goal is to offer redeployment opportunities to as many affected employees as possible.
"Since 2008, we've worked hard to innovate to help our customers save time and money when shopping for groceries and household essentials," said John Boumphrey, Country Manager, Amazon UK. "We continue to invent and invest to bring more choice and convenience to UK customers, enabling them to shop for a wide range of everyday essentials and groceries with low prices and fast delivery through Amazon.co.uk, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods Market stores, alongside our third-party grocery partners, including Morrisons, Co-op, Iceland, and Gopuff.”
Bringing more Whole Foods Market stores to London

As part of the Fresh Stores closure proposal, in addition to expanding online grocery services, we’re also proposing to convert five Amazon Fresh locations to Whole Foods Market. Whole Foods Market is a pioneer and leader in natural and organic foods that are carefully vetted and sourced from trusted suppliers, including Sourced for Good produce and floral; animal-welfare certified meat; sustainable wild-caught and Responsibly Farmed seafood; and grocery, bakery, and prepared foods departments filled with favourites from 365 by Whole Foods Market, local and emerging brands, and a growing selection of Regenerative Organic Certified items. Customers tell us they love shopping the Whole Foods Market physical store experience. With the proposed addition of these five stores, the opening of a Whole Foods Market in Chelsea earlier this year, and an additional store in Greater London by the end of 2026, we would have 12 Whole Foods Market stores in the UK.
Long-term commitment to the UK

This focus on greater online delivery is part of Amazon's broader commitment to the UK. As shared in June, the company plans to invest £40 billion in the UK over the next three years, creating thousands of full-time jobs, building new fulfillment centres, and driving innovation across its operations.
"We're deeply invested in the UK's economic growth and creating opportunities for both customers and employees," said Boumphrey. “We’ll be working hard to support any potentially impacted teams throughout these planned changes and are deeply grateful for their dedication. If the proposal moves forward, we’ll support our employees by offering alternative employment opportunities within Amazon wherever possible.”
UK customers can look forward to more news about our grocery offering in the year ahead as Amazon continues to make grocery shopping easier, faster, and more affordable.
