In 2015 we opened our multi-million pound Amazon Fashion European Photography Studio in Shoreditch, London to provide fashion imagery for Europe. The studio is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, housing 21 individual photography bays, a large state of the art editorial suite, video editing facilities, a creative fashion library, and office space for Amazon’s growing team of fashion creatives across 35,000 square feet. More than 500,000 images are captured each year, 132 editing computers help upload images to Amazon’s fashion sites, and the cabling for the photography equipment at the studio could make 12 trips around the equator.

The site, which is owned by TfL and was previously derelict, dates back to 1850. It was formerly used as a glass factory and at a later date, for repairing steam trains servicing Hoxton over ground train station. Original features including the winches used to lift trains into the space have been retained at the site.

Since the studio opened, Amazon has offered use of the studio to fashion students for a series of live talks and workshops to encourage more young people into fashion and media. In 2015, Amazon welcomed young creatives to the studio for the inaugural 'Dazed Fashion Forum', held in collaboration with Dazed and Confused. The event included talks from guests such as Jefferson Hack, Nicola Formichetti, Gareth Pugh, Susie Lau, Matthew Stone and Zowie Broach alongside interactive workshops with some of London’s most renowned creatives including Gary Card and Ryan Lo, a live publishing studio from Ditto Press and a portrait studio with fashion designer and illustrator Claire Barrow. The event also offered the opportunity to watch a fashion shoot with photographer Rankin, who captured portraits of attendees styled by Dazed Senior Fashion Editor Emma Wyman in the studio.
