We were pleased to hear that Amazon has been shortlisted for the corporate category of the Women of the Future Awards. Now in their twelfth year, the awards were conceived to provide a platform for the remarkable female talent in the UK. The awards recognise organisations which best support and nurture young women in their workforce.
Championing gender equality, both now and in the next generation is key for us at Amazon. In 2016, women made up just a quarter of students graduating from UK universities with a core STEM degree, according to the UK Higher Statistical Education Authority. That’s why we introduced our Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary to help young women from less advantaged backgrounds fulfil their ambitions of a career in innovation and technology, and why earlier this year we doubled the number of bursaries on offer to female students.
Fiona Mcdonnell, UK Gender Diversity Sponsor for Women@Amazon in the UK, said: “It is great that our company is being recognised for its work on gender equality. It is crucial that women feel empowered and able to progress in their chosen career, whether that is in tech, engineering or anything else.”
The winners of the Women of the Future award will be announced at a gala dinner on November 15th.
