- Amazon signs new Power Purchase Agreement with egg Power for South Ayrshire Wind Farm, bringing Amazon’s carbon-free energy capacity in the UK to more than 1GW once operational.
- The agreement represents the UK's largest ever onshore wind Power Purchase Agreement.
- A new independent study finds Amazon's investments in carbon-free energy, transport electrification, and sustainable packaging in the UK total £3.5 billion over the past five years, supporting up to 34,000 jobs and generating billions more in economic value.
Amazon has unveiled its 50th renewable energy project in the UK — confirming our position as the largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in the country for the fifth year in a row.
The latest project is a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire, Scotland, which brings Amazon's total UK carbon-free energy capacity to more than 1GW once all projects are fully operational — enough to power the equivalent of more than 1.2 million UK households annually.
Amazon's carbon-free energy portfolio in the UK
The investment brings Amazon's total UK carbon-free energy investment to 50 projects, including nine offsite wind and solar farms and 41 onsite solar installations on logistics centres and other Amazon buildings.
Once fully operational, these projects will generate more than 1GW of carbon-free energy capacity in the UK, enough to power the equivalent of more than 1.2 million UK households annually.
"Our 50th renewable energy project is an important part of our commitment to the UK," said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager. "Backing locally produced carbon-free energy matters for both the communities where we operate and for the country’s long-term energy security.”
Amazon's newest carbon-free energy project

The Chirmorie Wind Farm — developed by egg Power, Liberty Global’s renewable energy infrastructure investment business — will provide 90 megawatts (MW) of wind energy. The agreement represents the UK's largest ever onshore wind PPA.
“Signing the UK’s largest ever onshore PPA is a landmark moment, not just for egg Power, but for the UK renewable energy sector as a whole," said Ilesh Patel, who leads the egg Power business at Liberty Global. "Our mission is to deliver renewable energy to meet the fast-growing demand for affordable, secure, sustainable electricity from telecoms and digital infrastructure companies. There are large numbers of projects that lack the customers and funding to move them from a vision to reality and we are proud to collaborate with customers like Amazon to turn them into infrastructure as part of the UK’s transition to carbon-free energy."
Economic impact of Amazon's low-carbon investments
In the UK, Amazon’s low-carbon investments totalled up to £3.5 billion from 2021 to 2025, supporting up to 34,000 jobs and generating as much as an additional £2 billion in value to the national economy, according to a new independent study by Frontier Economics published today — Powering the Low-Carbon Economy: How Amazon's Investments Boost Europe's Growth and Competitiveness.
Amazon has played a catalytic role in scaling renewable electricity capacity in the UK by acting as an anchor offtaker through renewable energy PPAs that have enabled projects to reach deployment.
Supporting UK energy security

At a time when the UK is focused on moving away from expensive, imported gas and toward local renewable power, investments like these help spur the modernisation of energy infrastructure, supporting a more stable, self-reliant grid and helping keep electricity costs affordable for families and businesses.
Amazon's carbon-free energy investments don't just power its own operations — they add brand-new sources of carbon-free energy to the national grid, the same grid that powers homes, hospitals, and schools.
“Our clean energy mission is sparking a boom for investment in wind and solar projects, powering millions of homes and businesses, and creating good jobs across the UK,” said Michael Shanks MP, Minister of State for Energy. “This investment milestone by Amazon is another vote of confidence in clean, homegrown energy as the route to energy security, getting bills down for good and tackling the climate crisis."
Part of Amazon's wider UK commitment

Investments like Chirmorie Wind Farm help to improve grid reliability and infrastructure, power innovation and emerging technologies, and create construction jobs in local areas - key elements of Amazon's £40 billion commitment to the UK between 2025 and 2027.
Globally, Amazon has invested in more than 700 renewable energy projects across 28 countries—the largest carbon-free energy portfolio of any corporation in the world, with enough capacity to power the equivalent of 36 million European households annually.
