Within the bounds of Coventry, the UK City of Culture 2021, lies Allesley; home to Amazon fulfilment centre BHX4. Named after the nearest airport, Birmingham, BHX4 is the first dedicated receive centre for Amazon in the UK.

After being made redundant, Bruno Henriques joined Amazon in 2017. Within just four weeks Bruno was given the opportunity to progress, became a learning and development instructor, supporting and coaching new employees. A year later, Bruno transferred to the first Amazon UK receive centre in Coventry when it opened in 2018. Now, Bruno is a team lead, supporting, training and coaching the team to successfully deliver for customers.

“I decided that my goal for the future was to grow together with Amazon. I love my job and I plan to continue growing here because my dreams are big as Amazon’s!” Said Bruno.

As part of a programme called ‘I Found the Right Place’ Amazon invited employees from fulfilment centres across the UK to explain what they like best about working at Amazon and why it is the right place for them. More than 800 employees from across the UK and dozens from each site put pen to paper.

“I found out about the great benefits that Amazon offers (which were far better than anything I was used to) and the fun activities it organises for its employees and I realised that this was the place for me,” wrote Bruno in his entry.

All of the entries were anonymised and the best entry from each fulfilment centre was chosen. The chosen employees were invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to Seattle, U.S., to explore the Amazon head office and see where it all started.

"I couldn't believe that I was the lucky one. Before I joined Amazon I never dreamed I'd be doing anything like this and now I'm loving it!” Said Bruno.

During the five-day trip to Seattle, Bruno and Amazon colleagues from sites across the UK were shown around the city and enjoyed a trip up the Space Needle. They also went on a tour of the Amazon campus and the robotics fulfilment centre in Kent, Washington, where they met Amazon’s chief scientist.

Speaking about what he enjoyed most on the trip, he said, “I met many nice people that I will miss and I really enjoyed meeting everyone at the headquarters and learning more about what happens in Seattle.”
