Investing in the UK
We are creating 10,000 new permanent roles across the UK in 2021, taking our total permanent workforce to more than 55,000. Since 2010, we’ve made direct investments in our UK operations of more than £32bn. These investments raise economic activity in a given region and create a ripple effect through the local economy as the firms that supply goods and services to Amazon expand. Keystone, an independent economic consultancy, estimates Amazon’s investments contributed £36bn to the UK’s GDP since 2010.

Employment and skills support
Amazon employees have great opportunities to progress their careers, whether through improving existing skills or promotion into a managerial role. Amazon’s fully-funded apprenticeship programme, from entry-level through to degree-level, provides an exciting path for future team leaders, engineers, and innovation drivers. And for those who see their future outside Amazon, the Career Choice programme offers funding for adult education, pre-paying 95% of tuition and associated fees - up to £8,000 over four years - for nationally recognised courses. Subjects range from accountancy to HGV driving and software developing, and are designed to help employees pursue careers beyond Amazon if they wish to do so.

£10 million will be invested to train up to 5,000 employees in new skills.

Amazon in the community
We’re here to make a difference in the world, in a way unique to Amazon. With a culture built around solving “impossible” problems, we take a different, more hands-on approach to what is traditionally known as corporate philanthropy. We know that money is important, but we believe our true superpower is not found in the cheques we write. Rather, we prefer to dive deep and work side-by-side community partners to find solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. During 2020, amidst the ongoing pandemic, Amazon contributed over £100m in support for charities, healthcare organisations and our local communities. This included leveraging our logistics network to deliver over four million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK and to deliver seven million test kits to homes around the country as part of the support we provided to the UK Government to boost testing capacity for COVID-19.
