Amazon Web Services (AWS) is committed to running our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible. In addition to the environmental benefits inherently associated with running applications in the cloud, AWS has a long-term commitment to achieve 100% renewable energy usage for our global infrastructure footprint. To achieve this goal, we focus on four complementary areas: energy efficiency, continuous innovation, advocacy, and renewable energy.

We've made a lot of progress on this commitment. Over the past several years, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has enabled multiple utility-scale wind and solar farms in Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina. Amazon Wind Farm Indiana – Fowler Ridge was AWS’s first renewable energy project. This 150 MW wind farm went into operation on January 1, 2016. Most recently, five additional solar farms went into production in Virginia at the end of 2017.
